WHAT'S NEW IN CONTACT LENSES

 

There have been several new developments during 2006-2009.  Most of these relate to soft contact lenses and the increasing availability of complex designs in the new 'superpermeable' silicone hydrogel materials.  There have also been various new designs of hard lenses for orthokeratology which is now sometimes referred to as OVC (overnight vision correction).

Air Optix Multifocal Air Optix Multifocal.  (CibaVison) - A monthly disposable varifocal in a silicone hydrogel material suitable for daily or extended wear.
Acuvue 1-Day TruEye daily disposable contact lenses. TruEye 1-Day Acuvue.  The first daily disposable available in a silicone hydrogel material with optimum oxygen permeability.                         TruEye fitted at the North Pole.
Purevision multifocal soft lenses

Purevison Multifocals (Bausch & Lomb) - varifocal soft lenses suitable for extended (overnight) wear and monthly replacement.
Purevison toric lenses for astigmatism Purevision torics (Bausch & Lomb) - lenses for astigmatism  - now available in a wider range of prescriptions for monthly replacement.
Bausch & Lomb dalily disposable soft lenses Soflens Daily Disposables (Bausch & Lomb) - a new design of daily disposable with aspheric 'high definition' optics.
Oasys silicone hydrogel soft lenses Oasys (Johnson & Johnson) - now available in a wide range of both short-sighted and long-sighted prescriptions for weekly or two weekly replacement.
Acuvue daily disposable lenses for astigmatism Acuvue 1-Day for astigmatism (Johnson & Johnson)  -  daily disposables to correct astigmatism.
Acuvue Advance silicone hydrogels for astigmatism Acuvue Advance for astigmatism (Johnson & Johnson) - disposable torics for weekly or two weekly replacement.
Air Optix silicone hydrogel contact lenses Air Optix Aqua (CibaVision) - A monthly disposable silicone hydrogel suitable for daily or extended wear.
Air Optix Night & Day silicone hydrogel contact lenses Air Optix Night & Day (CibaVision) - for extended wear monthly replacement.
Definitions (Veni Vidi) - lenses designed to correct the eye's aberrations by 'wavefront technology' for daily or monthly replacement.
Biofinity silicone hydrogels Biofinity ( CooperVision) monthly disposables for daily or extended wear made from Aquaform silicone hydrogel material.
Proclear 1 day Proclear 1 day.  Daily disposables manufactured from the original biocompatible material containing phospherylcholine.
Premio (Menicon) fortnightly disposables for daily or extended wear made from silicone hydrogel material.
